RESEARCH INFORMATION

Ongoing research deals with alternative fuels (hydrogen and natural gas) and biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel) investigations in Internal Combustion Engines (ICE).  Present research includes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and validation studies of biodiesel blends internal injector fuel flow and spray development. Furthermore, present research deals with bioethanol blends internal injector fuel flow simulation and spray simulation and validation for gasoline direct injection (GDI) injectors. Research has been carried out on ICE exhaust emissions measurements and analysis of various bioethanol blends used in spark-ignition ICE, and utilisation of biodiesel fuels and blends in Diesel ICE. Research has also been done on the investigation and analysis of hydrogen fuelled vehicles and natural gas fuelled vehicles.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

For the period March 2015 to March 2019, Dr. Chasos participates in the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action CM1404 “Chemistry of Smart Energy Carriers and Technologies (SMARTCATS)”. Dr. Chasos is a member of the COST Action CM1404 Management Committee (representative of the Republic of Cyprus) and member of the Working Group 3 (WG3) of the Action: Chemical and optical advanced diagnostics for Smart Energy Carriers conversion monitoring. More information at the link http://www.smartcats.eu/.

Dr. Chasos participates in research proposals for research funding from local and European Commission funded research programmes.
